The race ULTRA TRAIL DESAFÍO CANTABRIA is organized by the C.D.E Desafío Cantabria in partnership with the city council of San Vicente de la Barquera. Both
organizations bear all responsibilities related to the celebration of sporting events,  including the ones related to the environment protection, safety of the runners and so on, as dictated in the “Set of rules for mountain races in protected natural areas” established by the Spanish Federation for Mountain and Climbing Sports which  guarantees the highest level of environmental care.

Our Ultra Trail is nearly 82 km of sea, mountain and nature. An unforgettable but harsh experience with a magnificent route throughout Picos de Europa mountain
range: a challenging territory at the highest level.

If the Ultra race doesn’t fit you, have no worries: we have for you our 33.5 km Night Trail Desafío Cantabria. The starting line is situated in San Vicente de la
Barquera and the finish line in Cicera. Part of the route is shared with the Ultra Trail and the entire race takes place at night.

If you don’t feel competitive or if you aren’t in the mood for such a hard race we’ve created another option: the Nocturnal Walk which is 24 km long. Even if
its starting point is in San Vicente de la Barquera, as for the Ultra and Trail races, soon afterwards the race will separate its course and take a pathway all
along the river Nansa until crossing the finish line in Cades.

The course of the race which goes through the Oyambre Natural Park and the National Park of Picos de Europa is the opportunity to enhance, nationally
and internationally, those two territories for their tourist offering as well as in their sportive dimension. Moreover, some parts of the race are shared with the
pilgrimage way to Santo Toribio de Liébana, an important fact as in 2023-2024 we are celebrating Liébana’s Holy Year.

Both the pilgrimage to Liébana and the ways leading to St James, in the northern Iberian Peninsula have been designated as World Heritage sites since
2015.

This race takes place with the co-operation of the followings town councils: San Vicente de la Barquera, Val de San Vicente, Herrerías, Lamasón, Peñarrubia,
Cillórigo de Liébana, Potes y Camaleño.
